The results from the 2015 American Library Association (ALA) election are in, and among the many leaders in the field of library and information science who will be taking on new roles with the national organization is Dr. Sandra Hirsh, director of the School of Information at San José State University. Hirsh was elected to serve a three-year term as International Relations Round Table (IRRT) councilor at large to the ALA Council.

“I am honored to represent IRRT on Council,” stated Hirsh. “International collaboration and cooperation are essential to the future of libraries, and the IRRT is a crucial part of promoting global exchange in our profession.”

According to the ALA, IRRT members “have played an important role in promoting understanding of and interests in library services around the globe.” The mission of the IRRT includes furthering issues of interest in global librarianship, developing and coordinating international activities, and liaising with ALA members interested in international issues.
