San José State University School of Information Professor Dr. Debra Hansen was awarded a CSU research grant to begin the California Library Association Oral History Project. Dr. Hansen writes:

Developed in conjunction with CLA, the oral history project will record for archival and historical purposes the memories of California librarians. The initial narrators will be selected from past presidents of the association who will be interviewed by students in the School of Library and Information Science about their personal background and careers, interests and involvement in professional associations, and experiences and achievements as president of the California Library Association. Seventeen past presidents have volunteered to be interviewed already. This group includes prominent California librarians of the 1980s, 1990s and 2000s, individuals who provided significant leadership in dealing with major issues confronting the profession, such as censorship, patron privacy, pay equity, and the digital divide.
