This fall, SJSU SLIS alumna Margo Padilla will be heading to Washington, D.C., to begin her paid residency at the Library of Congress and the Maryland Institute for Technology in the Humanities.

Padilla is one of 10 candidates selected by a committee of Library of Congress and Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) staff for the inaugural class of the National Digital Stewardship Residency (NDSR) program.

Her nine-month residency begins in September 2013, with a two-week digital stewardship workshop at the Library of Congress. She then will work on a specialized project at the Maryland Institute for Technology in the Humanities.

Padilla will “create and share a research report for access models and collection interfaces for born-digital literary materials,” according to the Library of Congress news release. She will also gain hands-on experience regarding access policies for born-digital collections.

The National Digital Stewardship Residency is a new program created by the Library of Congress in partnership with the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS). It is designed for alumni of graduate programs with master’s degrees in specialized fields, such as library science, information science, museum studies, archival studies and related technology.

Padilla earned her Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) degree at the SJSU information school in December 2011.
