The American Library Association’s Committee on Accreditation voted this week in Washington, DC to extend the accreditation of the San José Master of Library and Information Science for a full term, seven years, to 2014. The re-accreditation was issued without conditions.

This decision reflects well on the quality of our students, the school’s curriculum and its delivery, faculty contributions to the discipline and the profession and connections with alumni, employers and the broader University.

San José State University School of Information Director, Dr. Ken Haycock, states:

My sincere thanks to the many, many individuals in the SLIS community who contributed as writers, readers, spokespersons and advocates as well as constructive critics, as we continue to develop a culture of assessment and continual improvement. Most especially, our deepest appreciation to Jane Fisher, faculty lead on the report, and Linda Main who addressed many logistical and structural concerns.

We identified significant issues and addressed many of them. This “snapshot” provides us with many more areas to examine as we move to become not only the biggest but also the best.
