Biblion: The Boundless Library

Webcast Deanna Lee

It is an exciting and challenging time for libraries… a time when technological advances are changing how and what we read… a time when libraries can be leaders in presenting information in new ways, in new formats, to new generations of readers. Deanna Lee, Vice President for Communications and Marketing at The New York Public Library, will discuss how her team created Biblion: The Boundless Library, a revolutionary iPad application placing hundreds of rare source materials–for the launch edition, from the “World of Tomorrow” 1939-40 World’s Fair collection–right in people’s hands. Materials held deep in the stacks, once accessible to limited numbers of researchers, are presented in a novel infoscape designed for serendipitous discovery of infinite narratives. The discussion will cover the conceptual and design process of creating an application reflective of the mission of the Library, lessons learned, and how the Library is committed to being at the forefront of the information ecosystem.
