What I am doing now.

I am a project manager/database manager for a design firm. The database links project managers, subcontractors and clients all in one easily accessible app so that everybody is on the same schedule and questions can easily be asked and answered.

What are the most valuable skills I use in my job?

My job began solely as a database manager, however the skills that I learned in the MLIS program gave me the tools to quickly and efficiently organize the business so that everything can be easily accessed by all parties involved. My knowledge of emerging technologies allowed me to consolidate all communication between managers, subcontractors and clients in an easy to use app that incorporates access to all contracts, calendars and design choices. This eliminates waste and frees up the company to take on more clients. I was immediately promoted to project manager and learned how to do layouts, began consulting with clients, hiring subcontractors, and started choosing and purchasing design elements. This is not what I imagined I would be doing with my library degree but I wouldn’t be making this kind of money without it.
