Beta Phi Mu
Beta Phi Mu was founded in 1948 to recognize and encourage scholastic achievement among library and information studies students. The motto, Aliis inserviendo consumor, meaning "consumed in the service of others," was selected by the founders based on the concept of the dedication of librarians and other information professionals to the service of others. Eligibility for membership in Beta Phi Mu is by invitation of the faculty from an American Library Association accredited professional degree program.
The San José State University School of Information Beta Phi Mu chapter is called the Omega chapter. Each year by the last day in March the faculty will nominate eligible students from the previous calendar year iSchool graduates. This means that students who graduated in calendar year 2013 will be nominated and notified in March–April 2014.
Those students who accept the nomination may choose to be inducted into Beta Phi Mu either at ALA in the summer either in person or "in absentia" or via an online induction (date to be posted here when confirmed) .
