A 15-hour time difference between Hong Kong and San José is not an obstacle for Miriam Vriend and her quest to earn her MLIS while living overseas.

Kamilah Jackson served 10 years in the U.S. Coast Guard, where her duties included inspecting foreign freight at the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach. But she traded in her Lieutenant/0-3 rank to become a teacher, and today is working on her MLIS degree as one of 13 participants in the Librarians for Tomorrow program at SJSU.
Anita Brooks Kirkland, a SLIS student in the Executive MLIS program, won the Ontario Library Association’s prestigious Larry Moore Distinguished Service Award at the group’s annual Super Conference during January. The honor is bestowed on OLA members who make outstanding contributions to libraries in the Canadian province of Ontario through their work within the association.
