Informatics: Fundamentals

A broad perspective and understanding of informatics as a technical skill set that focuses on user-centered systems and balances legal and ethical considerations and measures. Examines informatics applications in specific and inter-professional contexts.

Informatics: Technology Foundations

Analyze and implement web applications using APIs, web frameworks and infrastructure-as-a-service to support web services and web resources. The course is hands on and moves at a fast pace.

Information Security: Overview

Fundamentals of network security, compliance and operational security; threats and vulnerabilities; application, data, and host security; access control and identity management; and cryptography. Students will be provided with an opportunity to gain hands-on experience using typical cybersecurity solutions. 

Big Data Analytics and Management

Covers important big data technologies, trends, infrastructure, and management issues that enable users to make informed and strategic decisions with the presence of large-scale data sets.

Human Centered Design

Designing and developing user-centered knowledge structures for the Web environment.Core topics are: problems addressed by effective human-computer interaction; how to design for findability; design thinking concepts and tools; prototyping; and informing stakeholders about a content-rich product.

Informatics: Project Management

Introduces essential strategies and techniques for project management. Topics include: management styles, institutional constraints, project life cycles, stakeholder management, scope definition, risk assessment, project planning tools, and team management.

Electronic Records

Structure, management, analysis, processing, quality, privacy, user interface and legal compliance of electronic records. Emphasis will be on cloud based Electronic Health Records 

DAM: Digital Assets Management

Concepts, terminology, practice and application of DAM in the private and public sector. Addresses metadata, workflow, taxonomy, data security, governance, and preservation of digital assets.
