Stephen is associate director of the University of California Curation Center (UC3) at the California Digital Library (CDL), with responsibility for strategic planning, innovation, and technical oversight of UC3’s initiatives, systems, and collections. He has been active in the digital library community for over 15 years and has served in an advisory or governing capacity for many projects and organizations, including DataONE, Facade, Federal Agencies Digitization Guidelines Initiative (FADGI), International Internet Preservation Consortium (IIPC), Jewish Women's Archive, and PLANETS, and program committees for the DLF Forum, iPRES, IS&T Archiving, and Open Repositories conferences. His doctoral research focuses on criteria and metrics useful in evaluating the relative success (or failure) of curation activities.
