Important Information About Financial Aid
See information about applying for financial aid here: SJSU Financial Aid & Scholarship Office
The SJSU Financial Aid Office phone number is (408) 283-7500 (Press #4).
When to Apply
iSchool applicants who would like to apply for financial aid should file their FAFSA (federal financial aid application) once they have submitted their application to the SJSU iSchool. The Financial Aid Office will not make any financial awards or disbursements until an applicant has:
- Been admitted to the iSchool
- Enrolled for classes
The amount awarded depends on the number of units a student takes each semester. Students need to enroll in at least 4 units (200 level courses*) each semester in order to maintain eligibility for financial aid. *SJSU 100 level World Languages classes (SPAN 132-10 or SPAN 132-11) are excluded from this rule as these classes apply towards the MLIS degree.
FAFSA Priority Filing Dates are available from the SJSU Financial Aid & Scholarships Office Applications are processed in the order received and can take up to 14 weeks to be processed.
In order for financial aid to be available in your first semester, you must complete your financial aid application 3-4 months before the semester begins. Plan ahead to avoid classes being dropped for lack of payment.
If you are a Special Session student and have already applied for financial aid, you may contact Carol Garcia. Email: Carol Garcia. Phone: 408-924-6081.
For aid in purchasing a laptop, the Financial Aid and Scholarship Office will participate in assisting eligible students with the funding for required wireless laptop purchases. If you are a matriculated and enrolled student with a financial aid award who needs to be considered for the purchase of a laptop, please contact SJSU Financial Aid and Scholarships Office to go through the Review of Extraordinary Expenses and provide a receipt or proof of purchase for the laptop. Once this is completed, we can then see if the student can be considered for any additional loan eligibility for the completed purchase.
