MacOS 12 (Monterey) Compatibility

Post

1.  Web Browsers:   

a.  Google Chrome:   Please update to Chrome version 95 or later in order to get full support for Monterey

b.  Mozilla Firefox:  Please update to Firefox version 91 or later in order to get full support for Monterey.

c.  Safari:   Monterey ships with the most current version of Safari.

2.  Google Apps:   As long as you update to the above supported browser versions, there should be no compatibility issues.

3.  Canvas:   As long as you keep your Web browser current (see above for browser versions that are compatible with Monterey), you should not have any issues.   Canvas supports the current and first previous major releases of the following browsers:   Chrome, Firefox, Safari.

4.  Zoom:  Zoom works on MacOS 12 (Monterey).   Please install the latest version of Zoom 5.8.0 or later.  More information is available here.  

5.  Microsoft Office for Mac:    

a.   Office 2019 and Office 365:   MacOS 12 (Monterey) is supported.  2019 will get security updates until 10/14/2025.   Please be sure to update your apps to the most current release.    More information is available here

b.  Office 2016 for Mac:    Microsoft discontinued all support for Office 2016 for Mac as of October 2020.   Therefore, the School of Information can no longer support Office 2016 for Mac.   Note that iSchool users have free access to Office 2019 for Mac.  

6.  MySJSU:  Be sure to update to one of the above supported browser versions. 

7.  Adobe Creative Cloud:  Latest version of Adobe Creative Cloud 5.6.0.788 and up is compatible.   Here is some additional information:

a.  Adobe Acrobat:   See the following article for compatibility and known issues.

b.  Photoshop:   See the following article for compatibility and known issues.

c.  Other Adobe apps:    See the following article for additional information.   Note that Adobe is still testing their apps for compatibility issues.

8.  SPSS Statistics:   SPSS 28 and SPSS 27 installs and opens properly on MacOS Monterey for both Intel and M1 chips.   There are reports that it crashes.   Please see the following article for more information.

9.   Qualtrics:  Be sure to update to one of the above supported browser versions.  More information on Qualtrics browser compatibility is available here.

10.  VoiceThread:   Update to the most current version of Chrome or Firefox.   VoiceThread is compatible on both M1 and Intel MacOS 12 (Monterey).   See the following article for more information.

11.  Panopto:  For viewing lectures, please make sure you have upgraded to the most current version of Chrome, Firefox or Safari.  For faculty who are recording lectures, currently Panopto Version 11.0.0 or higher will work for macOS 12 (Monterey).

12.  WebData Pro:   Please update to the most current version of Chrome or Firefox.  The version of Safari that ships with Monterey should be compatible with WebData Pro.

13.  Camtasia:    Versions 2020.0.19 or 2021.0.1 or later are generally compatible with macOS 12 (Monterey) on M1 Macs, with a known issue and a workaround related to the audio capture component.   For M1X MacBook Pro laptops, there are known color issues when rendering.   The fix should be included in Camtasia 2021.0.9 when it is released.

14.  SnagIt:   Versions 2021.4.3 or later are compatible with MacOS 12 (Monterey).

15.  DocuSign:  Update to the most current version of Chrome or Firefox.   The version of Safari that ships with MacOS 12 (Monterey) should be compatible with DocuSign.

16.  Sophos:  Sophos Home Premium for Mac version 10.2.2 (released October 21, 2021) is required for Monterey.

17.  WordPress:   Follow the Web browser advice given above and report any issues to Abigail Laufer.

  c. SecondLife:  Unofficial reports state that the Second Life viewer application runs fine under Monterey on Intel Macs, but not M1 Macs.
