The Catalyst Project: A New Model for Library Residency Programs

Post

Thanks to a generous grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) that ended in August 2012, the San José State University School of Informationdeveloped a new residency model for recent MLIS graduates that emphasizes leadership development, with emerging technology integration as the focal point of residencies.

The Catalyst residency model incorporates input received from the library community through focus groups and interviews with library leaders, residency experts, and technology experts. The Catalyst team also relied on insight from the leaders of four national organizations, who served as advisory partners.  A white paper published in June 2012 describes this optimal residency model.
