Circle of Learning student Debbie Reese's award-winning blog, American Indians in Children's Literature, shined the spotlight on the Arizona law that led to the recent shut-down of the Mexican American Studies Program in the Tucson Unified School District. Reese, tribally enrolled at Nambe Pueblo, is a consultant in the field of American Indians in children's literature.
In April, Reese was an invited guest at the W.K. Kellogg Foundation's America Healing for Democracy conference in New Orleans, LA. This summer, Reese was an invited presenter at the Pacific Northwest Library Association conference and spoke at two sessions at the International Conference of Indigenous Archives, Libraries, and Museums (ATALM) in Tulsa, OK.
