From Access to Intelligence: Advancing Digital Literacy Through Responsible AI in Public Libraries
This session explores how the Las Vegas-Clark County Library District is redefining digital literacy through the development and implementation of a comprehensive AI Utilization Plan. Grounded in a vision that extends beyond technology adoption, the plan prioritizes empowering staff, enhancing customer experiences, and positioning the library as a future-ready, community-centered institution.
Attendees will gain insight into how AI tools like Microsoft Copilot and Microsoft 365, are being integrated to improve decision-marking, reduce repetitive tasks, and expand equitable access to information and digital skills.
The presentation will also highlight key components of the District’s five-year roadmap, including governance, security, and ethical considerations, offering a practical framework for libraries seeking to responsibly implement AI while maintaining trust, transparency, and community impact.
The AI Utilization Plan is strategically aligned with Playbook 2031, the Library District’s five-year strategic plan, advancing its Future-Ready Learning and Responsive, Resilient, and Remarkable Operations priorities by embedding AI into both staff workflows and community-facing digital literacy initiatives.
