The SJSU School of Information knows the importance of lifelong learning and the need to stay competitive in the job market. That’s why our school has partnered with Coursera, a global online learning platform, to enhance our students’ career preparation with recognized industry certificates at no additional cost.

The Coursera Career Academy’s online courses, micro-credentials, and certificates from world-class companies are offered free-of-charge to all iSchool students, alumni, faculty, and staff, and serve to expand their learning beyond their iSchool program.

Unlock Your Potential

From data science and computer science to business and information technology, the Career Academy courses cover in-demand fields and teach the skills employers seek in job candidates. Students can also explore different career paths and find the right role for their career goals, earn a micro-credential from a leading company, prepare for a career change, and receive expert instruction from industry leaders, including Google, Meta, IBM, Salesforce, and more.

We are thrilled to be able to provide our students and alumni with these additional learning opportunities to strengthen employment options. Enrollment in the Coursera Career Academy is reserved for students, alumni, faculty and staff of the SJSU School of Information only.

Current Students

The Coursera licenses for current students will begin in May 2024. After which, the iSchool will send an email to current students enrolled in the Master of Library and Information Science, Master of Archives and Records Administration, Master of Science in Informatics, Bachelor of Science in Information Science and Data Analytics, and Gateway PhD programs inviting them to opt-in to take Coursera courses. The email will be sent at the beginning of each semester to the email address on file and include instructions on how to gain access to the Coursera courses.

Alumni

iSchool will be emailing out an online application form to alumni twice a year:  once in the Summer, and once in the Winter.  Completing the online application form will allow alumni to opt-in for a one-year Coursera Career Academy license.  A limited number of licenses will be made available to alumni on a first-come basis until all seats are allocated. Alumni who are granted a license will receive an invitation email directly from Coursera.  Follow the instructions in the email to join the Alumni Learning Program.

Faculty and Staff

Faculty and staff Coursera invitations were sent out in early June 2024.   If you did not receive one, and would like to access Coursera as an iSchool faculty or staff member, please contact Abigail Laufer.
