California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation
Sacramento, CA USA
What I am doing now.
I have statewide responsibility for the coordination of all California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation inmate law and general library services. In a given day that looks different, anything from answering an email about the interpretation of a regulation to coordinating book donations. I am also heavily involved in recruitment (we are hiring!) and retention. I started as a Librarian at Corcoran State Prison in 2007, 2 weeks after graduation, and it has been an amazingly rewarding career so far. I’d love to talk to you about your own career. :)
What are the most valuable skills I use in my job?
Research, ready reference interview, cataloging and classification, YA Lit (I know, it surprised me too!), and leadership.
