What I am doing now.

As Electronic Resources Librarian I am responsible for the setup, cataloging, and access to ebooks, e-journals, and databases as well as the implementation of tools like link resolvers, A to Z lists, and discovery systems.  I also get to work directly with students both at the reference desk and teaching library instruction sessions.

What are the most valuable skills I use in my job?

Although many of the technical skills I learned, like cataloging and HTML, are very important, I find that many of the soft skills I developed at SLIS are just as vital. My work requires frequent, close collaboration not only within my department but also with a myriad of product vendors and service providers. Good networking and communication skills, especially through digital means, have proven extremely useful in being able to bring together working groups, communicate the needs of my institution, and maintain good relationships with everyone involved in a project.
