The SJSU iSchool held a symposium celebration of Earth Day, “Earth Day 2023: Sustainability and Libraries.”
The event featured an enlightening conversation about Sustainability in libraries with library leaders from Queens Public Library speaking about rebuilding after Hurricane Sandy destroyed libraries, Florida Atlantic University Libraries sharing news about their collaboration with scientists researching dolphins and a new grant to support engineers studying solar panels, and a librarian former volunteer at the Research Library at the Grand Canyon National Park (US) and at the Charles Darwin Research Station Library (Galapagos, Ecuador).
The event also included a talk by Loida Garcia-Febo on “Libraries Investing in Our Planet: Save Blue. Live Green,” videos about the Grand Canyon National Park, and discussions of the devastation and rebuilding of Queens Public Library branches after Hurricane Sandy.
