What I am doing now.

I get to wear many hats at my place of work: I teach students information literacy skills in the classroom, I mentor students at our Research Help desk, I work behind the scenes on our electronic resources, and I grow the collection through licensed products and book purchasing. I work very closely with faculty and that is particularly satisfying as we try to improve student success together.

What are the most valuable skills I use in my job?

The business management course I took with Professor Bill Fisher is one of the courses that has stuck with me the most. It really made me think about leadership and decision-making in a professional setting. The technology tools course I took was also invaluable as it influenced how I consume the internet — and how the students I work with do as well. I’d also say the reference and instruction internship I arranged through SLIS profoundly influenced me as a librarian, and I can’t recommend interning highly enough to current students.
