MLIS 2010
Instructional Services Librarian

What I am doing now.

I am involved in the user education, information literacy, and reference services programs at Cedarville and assist with the maintenance of the library website. I help to create online guides and tutorials which promote library resources and provide instruction for electronic resources. I also help manage the library’s social media accounts. In 2014, I received a Graduate Certificate in Online Teaching from Boise State University.

In addition, I’m the co-convener for quarterly meetings of the SWON (Southwest Ohio and Neighboring Libraries) Academic Librarians Interest Group, where we share ideas and resources on instruction. I also created the SJSU SLIS group on LinkedIn back in 2008, which currently has over 2,000 members.

What are the most valuable skills I use in my job?

All of my SLIS coursework has been helpful in different ways. Several courses helped me to develop my web design skills, which have been a key component of my responsibilities here at Cedarville, as well as in past library positions and internships. I use the skills I learned in the Reference and Information Services course nearly every day in interactions with students and faculty.
