Children Services Librarian
Sonoma County Library
Santa Rosa, CA
What I am doing now.
I’m a full-time children’s librarian for ages 0-12. Working at the county’s busiest branch, I maintain parts of the children’s collection, create and plan for programs that children want, do a lot of readers advisory as well as weekly storytimes, and do plenty of outreach and class visits with the other youth services librarians. Being the only bilingual children’s librarian, I’m in charge of the juvenile Spanish collection and continuously keeping a connection with Spanish-speaking communities.
What are the most valuable skills I use in my job?
Helping children get ready to read and write through early literacy, how to create and budget for a program, collection development and weeding, booktalks, knowing how to use emerging technologies, and having excellent customer service.
