What I am doing now.
My current position is the lead instructor for the information literacy efforts at the University of Alabama in Huntsville. We are a Research One University with a focus on Engineering and Science. But we also have very strong Business and Nursing programs. I teach and design across the curriculum. My main responsibilities are teaching/designing a number of different information literacy workshops and imparting solid instructional design aspects to the library instruction program. I try to make sure every session is built around the class discipline, if not a specific assignment. We focus on active, collaborative classes and our information literacy program reflects that. I spend my time assessing and analyzing the program and imparting this across the instruction curriculum as well as speaking all over campus.
I also am the distance education liaison. For this specific need
I try to make sure that anything our face to face students have
access to, our distance students do as well. For this I
design a lot of tutorials and videos with universal design
methods and ADA standards.
What are the most valuable skills I use in my job?
For the most part, I use what I learned in the general classes on information behavior as well as instructional design.
