What I am doing now.

I answer reference questions and provide access to government publications and information as a part of the Federal Depository Library Program. I am also the representative for the Patent and Trademark Resource Center and teach trainings on patent and trademark searching for aspiring inventors and members of the public. I will also be engaged in a retrospective cataloging project that will enable us to provide access to pre-1976 documents that are not currently in our online catalog.

What are the most valuable skills I use in my job?

My government information sources, information secrecy, reference, and cataloging courses have had direct application in my work at the California State Library.  In fact, I enrolled in several of these courses in the hopes that I would eventually land the exact job I have now. While my knowledge and ability to search a mix of traditional and modern sources to answer questions are essential to my work, perhaps the most crucial elements to being successful in my role here are my commitment to service, ability to go with the flow, and a quirky sense of humor.
