Access to Legal Responses to COVID-19 in Latin America and the Caribbean
Faculty Presentation

Faculty Conference Presentation

Dr. Villagran will speak at a panel on “Access to Legal Responses to COVID-19 in Latin America and the Caribbean” at the 2020 Law Via the Internet Conference. Since March 2020, a group of law librarians have been collecting, analyzing and comparing the legal responses to COVID-19 throughout Latin America and the Caribbean. We are interested not only on the dramatic and rapid responses to the crisis, but also on the dissemination and lack of free access or even awareness to these legal changes. We specifically focus on how previous lack of free access to law by vulnerable groups in the region such as transgender, indigenous people, prisoners, refugees, etc. has been exacerbated or brought to more people’s attention during the pandemic. As librarians, we are also particularly interested in the connections between lack of access to free law and disinformation.
