Increasing Access to Native American Children – Reading Nation Waterfall Year 1 Results
Faculty Presentation
Building off last year’s CLA presentation, Reading Nation Waterfall faculty, librarians, and students will share Year 1 results. Funded by a $1.4 million IMLS National Leadership Grant, the Reading Nation Waterfall team is operated by the SJSU iSchool and Dr. Anthony Chow and is focused on identifying and removing barriers to access to literacy resources and libraries for Native American children. Based on community wide assessments at each tribe, several project activities have been implemented – three fully stocked little free libraries at each tribe, funding new services/resources/programming designed to increase usage and relevancy of both school and public libraries, new technology, and funding creative works prepared by and for Native American community members. Attend to find out how successful we have been in removing barriers by providing customized and strategic activities designed to increase access for Native American children and their caregivers.
