Participatory Archiving: Skills and Tools for Building Inclusive and Diverse Archival Collections
Faculty Presentation

Faculty Conference Presentation

Dr. Villagran will be presenting “Participatory Archiving: Skills and Tools for Building Inclusive and Diverse Archival Collections” at the 2023 NAGARA Winter Online Forum: Fixing the Leaks & Patching the Holes: Filling up Your Archives & Records Management Toolbelt. In this session, we’ll explore the role of archivists in working with historians and community members to build inclusive and diverse archival collections. Participatory archiving has the potential to address gaps in collections related to race, equity, accessibility, and diversity by welcoming individuals from all socio-economic levels, cultural groups, and political affiliations. This session will provide valuable insights for archivists on how to play a key role in building a more inclusive archival record and understanding of shared histories.
