Faculty Conference Presentation

Jennifer Perez Lara, Kristie Barlas, Ashley Flores, and Dr. Michele A. L. Villagran will present “From Research to Practice: Translating Culturally Competent Research into Everyday Library Work” at the 2026 American Library Association annual conference in Chicago, IL. Event: https://cdmcd.co/pMwx4E

This presentation will share initial survey and interview findings from practicing librarians and faculty researchers. We will highlight the next phase of CCRLIS, which involves collaborating with cultural experts to refine the framework and develop training that supports both practitioners and researchers. Attendees will be invited to reflect on their own research experiences and provide feedback on the framework, contributing to its development as a practical tool. By connecting cultural competence in research to library practice, this session highlights how intercultural awareness and inclusive methods can transform library and information science research into a more equitable, reflexive, and socially responsive practice.
