Getting it in Writing: Diversifying the Voices of Librarianship

The month kicks off with our very own Dr. Michele Villagran’s
presentation at the REFORMA
Colorado Conference, an essential conversation on broadening
the voices in library publications. This event takes place in
Denver, CO, so consider checking it out if you live in the area
or attending the conference. Dr. Villagran’s presentation will
explore how diversifying the voices in our field enriches
perspectives and reflects the vibrant community libraries
serve.

Getting Started with Meal Prep: Fueling Student Success
November 1, 2024
When you’ve spent hours at the computer reading scholarly
articles and writing papers, the idea of cooking dinner can be
soul-crushing. I know that, personally, this often results in a
quick visit to the Taco Bell down the street. But, what if we had
some tasty meals already prepared and waiting for us in the
fridge? Join a panel of iSchool faculty as they dish out their
favorite hacks for creating budget-friendly, tasty meals that
keep you fueled for success. This session will go beyond just
recipes, sharing time-saving strategies that give students more
time to focus on school—and themselves. Bring your own tips and
tricks to share with the community!

SJSU iSchool’s Symposium on Ukraine: Supporting Veterans and People with Disabilities

The iSchool symposium on Ukraine brings together Ukrainian
library professionals to discuss the unique role libraries play
in supporting veterans and individuals with disabilities during
challenging times. This event offers a window real-life
application of this role in the Ukrainian library landscape and a
chance to reflect on the universal mission of libraries to serve
all members of society.

Creating and Sharing Knowledge with REFORMA
November 6, 2024
If you can’t catch Dr. Michele Villagran’s

time to discuss knowledge-sharing within the REFORMA Research
Committee, exploring ways this group is advancing libraries’
reach and impact across communities. This session will take place
on Zoom and is an ideal space for those passionate about
connecting and collaborating through research and advocacy.

Designing Organizations for Inclusive Technologies
November 7, 2024
For anyone interested in how tech design can drive inclusivity,
this session with Dr.
Darra Hofman is a must. She’ll be presenting at the PIT-UN
Summit in San Jose, focusing on structuring organizations to
support accessible technologies and how these designs can impact
the future of library services. In-person registration for this
summit is already full, but you can still sign up to attend

MLIS Online Open House
November 7, 2024
Are you a prospective MLIS student who found their way to this
blog? Hi, nice to meet you! If you would like to know more about
SJSU’s excellent MLIS program, this is the event for you! Meet
faculty and staff at this virtual open house to get a closer look
at the curriculum, explore career paths and learn why so many
students choose the iSchool. A Q&A follows for any burning

ATALM Conference: Celebrating Indigenous Libraries and Archives
November 13-14, 2024
Join the iSchool team at the ATALM Conference, where they’ll be
hosting a booth and building connections with those dedicated to
preserving Indigenous histories and cultures. Stop by the booth
to learn more about the iSchool and discover ways to support
Native libraries, archives and museums.
The iSchool will also be
hosting a meet-up at the conference on Wednesday night from
7:00pm to 9:00pm. You do NOT need to attend the conference to
come to the meet-up. So if you are located near Palm Springs,
drop by for a meal provided by the iSchool and meet fellow
iSchool students, faculty and staff! RSVP for the meet-up by
11:59pm on November 10th with this form.

IDEA in Action: Your Voices Best Practices
November 14, 2024
For iSchool students located near St. Louis, you have yet another
opportunity to hear from Dr. Villagran this month.
“Your Voices” will be presented at the Library Marketing
and Communications Conference 2024 by Dr. Villagran and
students Kara Price and Laura Dowell. “Your Voices” highlights
best practices for promoting inclusion and diversity. This
session explores the program’s success stories and offers
practical tips for organizations looking to amplify diverse
voices in library sciences.
