SLIS alumna Christy Aguirre has been named the 2012 Outstanding Librarian in Support of Literacy by the California Library Association (CLA).

“Christy truly embodies the enthusiasm, passion and empathy needed to help everyone in our community understand that the library is the place to discover the joy of reading, no matter how young or old you are,” said Rivkah Sass, library director, Sacramento Public Library.

Aguirre is a branch supervisor at the Sacramento Public Library. She is also an internship supervisor for the San José State University School of Library and Information Science internship program.

CLA’s Outstanding Librarian in Support of Literacy Award recognizes and honors a librarian who has demonstrated passion, excellence and dedication in support of adult literacy. The award is sponsored by the Bay Area Literacy, Southern California Library Literacy Network, and Northern California Literacy Coalition.

Aguirre will be honored at the CLA Awards Gala on November 2, 2012, during the annual conference in San Jose, California.
