iSchool Celebrates 2024-2025 ALA Spectrum Scholars

News

The American Library Association has named its 2024-2025 Spectrum Scholars, recognizing 70 outstanding students from across the country who are pursuing graduate degrees in library and information science. Among this year’s recipients are several San José State University School of Information students, honored for their commitment to diversity, leadership potential, and dedication to advancing social justice in the field.

The Spectrum Scholarship Program, established in 1997, has awarded more than 1,600 scholarships to support students from underrepresented groups in their library and information studies education. The program fosters equity, diversity, and inclusion in the profession, aligning with the ALA’s mission to transform communities through the power of libraries.

The 2024-2025 selection process was highly competitive, with four times as many applicants as scholarships available. Jurors reviewed applications rigorously, selecting recipients who demonstrated a strong commitment to community building and a vision for making meaningful contributions to the profession.

The iSchool extends its heartfelt congratulations to the awardees and celebrates their achievements as future leaders in the library and information science profession.
