The San José State University School of Information has become the 97^th member of the iSchools organization, a consortium of information schools dedicated to advancing the information profession and supporting the iSchool Movement.

“We congratulate the San Jose State iSchool on joining our organization,” said iSchools Chairman Sam Oh.

“We are thrilled to join as a member of the iSchools organization. We look forward to collaborating and exchanging ideas with our iSchools colleagues in this consortium comprised of respected institutions from around the world,” SJSU School of Information Director Dr. Sandra Hirsh said.

Founded in 2005, the iSchools organization has expanded to include universities and institutions around the globe. According to its website, member schools “are committed to collective efforts that will shape the information field, communicate its purpose and value and enhance its visibility.” Furthermore, as a collective, they can enhance academic initiatives, leverage research funding, and prepare the next generation of scholars.

“Our faculty and students will join a network of iSchool researchers and scholars who are working on innovative solutions to information problems and challenges, and will have the opportunity to contribute and participate in the annual iConference,” Hirsh said.

The iConference series is presented by member schools and provides an important forum for discussing critical information issues in contemporary society. Hirsh will be attending the 2019 iConference in Washington D.C. and participating in the annual iSchools business meeting.
