iSchool Faculty Awarded SJSU Grants

Drs. Michele Villagran, Darra Hofman, and Souvick Ghosh were awarded funding through a 2024 VPRI Teaming Award. They will be working with Dr. Nada Attar in Computer Science on this project. 

Dr. José Aguiñaga received funding from the 2024-2025 RSCA Seed Grant Program to support their research.

Dr. Anthony Bernier Publishes New Book

Dr. Bernier’s new book “Young Adult Library Services: Challenges and Opportunities” is now available from Rowman & Littlefield Publishers. This books represents a single, broad, and diverse engagement with scholars and acknowledged experts on the most pressing issues confronting YA services today. 

Dr. Souvick Ghosh Invited to Speak at CHIIR Workshop

Dr. Ghosh recently delivered an invited talk at the  8th SCAI (Search-Oriented Conversational AI) Workshop, CHIIR 2024, Sheffield, UK. His talk was titled “Overview of Paper ‘Toward Connecting Speech Acts and Search Actions in Conversational Search Tasks’”.

Dr. Anthony Chow Joins The Political Librarian Editorial Board

Dr. Chow has recently been named as a member of the Editorial Board for the open-access political journal, The Political Librarian. The journal focuses on the intersection of local libraries, public policy, education policy, and tax policy. It aims to expand the library advocacy and activism discussion while promoting research and new ideas about library policy and funding issues.

Dr. Souvick Ghosh Presents at JCDL 2023

 Dr. Ghosh presented a paper titled  ”Toward Connecting Speech Acts and Search Actions in Conversational Search Tasks” at the 2023 Joint Conference on Digital Libraries. In this paper, Dr. Ghosh and his co-authors automatically identify the speech acts associated with spoken utterances and use them to predict the system-level search actions.

Dr. Michele Villagran Co-authors Article about Integrating Immigrants into the US LIS Profession

Dr. Villagran recently co-authored an article titled “Integrating Immigrants into the US LIS Profession: Findings from a Pilot Collaborative Project” in the Journal of Education for Library and Information Science. This article presents the outcomes of a pilot, self-paced mini-course to introduce US immigrants to the library and information science (LIS) field.
