What I am doing now.

I am the Academic Support Librarian for Psychology and Life Sciences at the University of Essex. I meet regularly with these departments to ensure our collections and information literacy support aligns with their curriculum. I also manage our general ‘Skills at Library’ program by delivering training sessions and developing new online learning guides and workshops. It’s rewarding to see students gain confidence in their information skills.

What are the most valuable skills I use in my job?

A lot of my current job boils down to content creation, and being able to communicate information as part of a taught session or online resource. The digital skills I learned when completing my eportfolio equipped me for this kind of work. The courses I took on library marketing and using social media as a marketing and teaching tool also helped me develop valuable skills. Being able to write project proposals and action plans is another key aspect of my job, and my coursework on creating information management plans and preservation policies prepared me for these tasks.
