Biographical Sketch

Jill Klees began working at the San José State University Career Center in 2007, supporting alumni and technical students in the College of Engineering and the Department of Computer Science with internship and job search strategies, and establishing relationships with employers in Silicon Valley. In 2009, Klees expanded her efforts and began providing career services support to the students and alumni in the School of Information.

This endeavor has been a fun and challenging growth opportunity for Klees as she plunged into learning about a new industry, identifying the traditional and non-traditional career paths available for iSchool graduates, developing partnerships with a variety of employers in the LIS field, identifying the unique needs of the online learner, and creating relevant virtual career resources to meet student needs.

Prior to coming to SJSU, Klees had worked in the career coaching field for over 15 years in both academic and corporate environments. She gained extensive experience working in start-up, non-profit and technology-based industries providing career related resources within the Silicon Valley marketplace. She has extensive experience developing innovative tools and resources to prepare her clients for the workforce and is highly skilled in helping her clients determine their unique talents and strengths. She has expertise in resume writing and in teaching students how to identify and capitalize on the best skills and attributes they have to offer to a potential employer.

Outside of her role as a career development consultant, Klees has been a fitness instructor since 2004 teaching yoga and strength training classes at her local YMCA. She is passionate about work-life balance and encouraging her clients to find meaningful work.
