ISDA 101 Online Learning Tools and Strategies for Success – Fall 2025
All new students must take ISDA 101 in their first semester. This 1-unit CR/NC course opens two weeks before the semester starts. It is an introduction to the key technologies and strategies for online learning, covering learning management tools, library databases, web conferencing, and more. It is delivered 100% asynchronously online. We encourage students to start and finish the course early if they can.
Requests to add the class after the semester has started are not granted without extenuating circumstances and must be within the first 7 days. No exceptions.
Timeline
- June-July: Students register for ISDA 101.
- By August 3 (end of day): Students will receive instructions from their ISDA 101 instructor about how to access their Canvas course site. Instructions will be sent via MySJSU messaging and by email. Canvas accounts will be activated by the university before ISDA 101 begins. See Getting Started with Canvas.
- August 4: ISDA 101 course sites become available. Students are strongly encouraged to begin the course work prior to the official start of the semester in order to better prepare for their other classes.
- August 20: Fall semester officially begins. All new students should be 1) registered in ISDA 101 on MySJSU, and 2) enrolled in the course site on Canvas.
- September 16: ISDA 101 course completion deadline. This deadline is firm. Students who do not successfully complete the course by this date will have a hold placed on their registration for the next semester.
**Be aware that MySJSU may list the dates for ISDA 101 as August 20-December 8. Ignore those dates. The class will be available starting August 4 and will end September 16.
