Peer mentors for INFO 203 are conducting optional sessions for new students right before the start of the new semester. Seats are limited, but the link to a recording will be posted here, as soon as it is available. (Generally 24-48 hours after event.)

Please see the details on this page to learn about each session, and then use the RSVP form linked below to register for a session. If you do not see one of the sessions listed in the RSVP form, it means the session is full and has been closed.

Going Back to School Later in Life (Wednesday January 15th, 5pm)

You’ve made the excellent choice to go back to school as an experienced adult! We’re here to offer support and suggestions to balance school, work, and personal life. Join us for some tips, and meet some peers who feel the same way!

Feeling overwhelmed with your daily schedule plus school? Don’t worry, we got you. Learn how to seamlessly integrate your personal calendars and your class schedules/due dates, all in one google calendar.  Plus tips on tools for shortcuts, browser bookmarks and forwarding school emails.

Making Groups Work (Wednesday January 22, 11am)

Working in groups is a regular part of being an iSchool Grad Student. This workshop will help you learn how to integrate group work into your busy schedule and prevent the challenges of group work through applying group roles, setting ground rules, and learning effective conflict resolution.

Real Self-Care: Holistic Wellness as a MLIS Student (Tuesday January 28, 5:30 pm)

Join an insightful and supportive conversation on holistic wellness, specifically tailored to the unique challenges we face as grad students. We’ll discuss key themes from Dr. Pooja Lakshmin’s book Real Self-Care: A Transformative Program for Redefining Wellness(Crystals, Cleansers, and Bubble Baths Not Included), which challenges the superficial, consumer-driven notions of self-care and instead promotes sustainable, long-term strategies to combat burnout, crisis, and overwhelm. This meet-up will center on how we can redefine self-care in the context of our hectic graduate student lives, moving beyond trendy wellness practices to explore what truly fosters mental, emotional, and physical well-being.
