Resource Management Librarian
University of New Mexico Health Sciences Library & Informatics Center

What I am doing now.
I work in the library’s Resources, Archives, and Discovery unit. I am responsible for the selection and acquisition of resources for the UNM Health Sciences Center including academic programs for Nursing, Pharmacy, Population Health, and Medicine as well as resources for the clinical and research enterprises. I maintain our Collection Development Manual and other documentation for internal processes, negotiate license agreements with vendors, create sessions and educational materials to promote our collections and discovery tools to users, and assist in making our resources discoverable.
What are the most valuable skills I use in my job?
The courses that I took on cataloging, metadata, indexing and collection development have been most useful. However I have been surprised how useful the information from the information technology (HTML coding) course has been. Other skills that have been important are technical writing and project management.
