Comparison of Historical and Contemporary Youth Literature: This final literature review for the class was an in-depth look at how the topic of overcoming adversity as been depicted in both historical children’s literature as well as in contemporary works. The “power of story” can better enable us to process the events going on around us. This paper is a synopsis and a comparison of works done in the past as well as recent works to look at how books can help us to better deal with the struggles and issues we are facing.
 
Laura Buck

Laura Buck has been working in the Youth and Family Services department for Douglas County Libraries in Colorado for six years. She helped to establish a school library at a nearby Charter School in her area. She led a nonprofit foundation focused on parks and trails in her community. She expects to be finished with her MLIS in December of 2022. She enjoys her 4 children, her 2 dogs, as well as singing and volunteering in her spare time.
