The Concept of Perfect: A Trip to The Huntington Rare Book Collection
Jack Powers, 2025 Showcase
The Concept of Perfect: A Trip to The Huntington Rare Book Collection: For this Rare Books site visit assignment, I spent the day at The Huntington in San Marino, CA. I booked an appointment with the Curator of Rare Books and spent most of the afternoon in conversation with him. Together we dove into his facsimile of The Huntington’s Gutenberg Bible and later explored the stacks that house the Rare Book Collection. The paper is written in the style of a travelogue per the assignment’s instructions.
Jack Powers: “I split my time between San Francisco and Palm Springs. I started the MLIS program in 2021 and have completed about 70% of the MLIS Degree. I have worked in the publishing industry for over 20 years and now manage a team of 5 professionals. I graduated from Washington University in St. Louis where I majored in Comparative Literature. I pursued a dual minor in French and a Humanities program called Text & Tradition, essentially a “great works”concentration. I am a voracious reader and an avid collector of vinyl, so I have quite an extensive media library of my own.”
