Data Privacy Cultural Heritage Safeguarding Sub-Saharan Africa and the California Bay Area

Data Privacy Cultural Heritage Safeguarding Sub-Saharan Africa and the California Bay Area: This presentation explores the challenges and threats facing cultural heritage materials and sites across the Sub-Saharan African region, while also highlighting solutions, actionable steps, and ongoing efforts to protect, preserve, and celebrate these invaluable resources. Framed within the context of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the presentation examines issues of equity, preservation, access, and intellectual freedom. It showcases the work of various LIS organizations in Sub-Saharan Africa and draws comparisons to similar preservation efforts in the Bay Area, California. Proposed solutions emphasize inclusivity, encouraging all members of society to contribute to global efforts in safeguarding cultural heritage. By protecting our natural resources, cultural artifacts, and indigenous communities, these efforts honor and celebrate the rich diversity of human heritage and the environment that sustains life.
