Mei-Chen Chen, 2024 Showcase
Emerging Technologies for Community Archiving: This video presentation explores how emerging technologies, such as the web, apps, and online platforms, support community archiving practices. For instance, mobile devices now enable easy capture, digitization, and sharing of cultural materials among communities and institutions. Additionally, academics are developing web apps like TalkOver for recording oral histories related to digitized images and OcrMarkup for collaborative editing of historical texts, empowering communities to manage their digital archives effectively. Moreover, online environments such as the Archivists Think Tank Facebook group play a crucial role in facilitating knowledge exchange, offering guidance, and providing support for real-world archiving challenges.
