The Midnight Library
Autumn Thompson, 2025 Showcase
The Midnight Library: For this assignment, we needed to create a presentation on an existing or fictitious public library homelessness engagement program, partnership, or resource for unsheltered or unhoused community members. The Midnight Library is my take on potential library outreach services inspired by work done by The Night Ministry. The Night Ministry is an organization on the frontlines providing human connection, housing, and healthcare to the unhoused members of the Chicago community. Although it is not a library program, I believe much can be learned from this organization and implemented in libraries.
Autumn Thompson: “I am a Bay Area Native. I got my undergraduate degree in Health Science with a minor in Biology from CSU East Bay. I started at SJSU in 2022 and was lucky enough also to get hired by the Contra Costa County Library system as a Library Assistant. This was my first public library job, and it felt like the perfect fit. The spring of 2025 was my last semester in the MLIS program at SJSU, so I am now a recent graduate!”
