"Somos Hayward: We are Hayward": This project is an inspiration report for the Hayward Public Library in Hayward, CA. “Somos Hayward: We are Hayward” emphasizes the importance of community building and creating a welcoming and inclusive environment for the public library.

Briana Surmick is a Native (Pomo/Diné) and Latinx graduate student who received her BA from UC Berkeley in Ethnic Studies. After graduating from UC Berkeley, she became a Kindergarten teacher and became extremely passionate about early literacy and began her Masters in Library and Information Science journey here at San José State University. Briana is an aspiring librarian and is passionate about Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion work, inclusion and accessibility in libraries, serving the community, and information technology.
