Visual Insights of the Sea Star Wasting Disease: San Francisco Bay Area

Visual Insights of the Sea Star Wasting Disease: San Francisco Bay Area: My Canva visualization project explores data concerning Sea Star Wasting Disease in the San Francisco Bay Area. In my project, I focused on learning how to work with ecological data and how to translate that data into meaningful visuals. I used Canva, Flourish, and Jupyter notebooks to create visuals showing changes in sea star abundance, disease prevalence over time, impacts on specific sea star species, and spatial patterns across the monitoring sites. Keli Ingrande: “I am currently a student in the ISDA program here at San Jose State University. I have always been passionate about the ocean, and I hope to build a career helping researchers by organizing and improving access to the data they need to support conservation efforts. After graduating in Spring 2026, I plan on pursuing my MLIS degree with a focus on digitization and archival work so I can contribute my skills to ocean conservation, as the ocean has always been important to me.”
