SAASC Presents Putting the Pieces Together: Creating and Maintaining an Archives in a Regional Medical Center
SAASC is excited to host Mary Jo Russell on Thursday, March 14th
from 4:30-5:30pm PT as she discusses her work as the Knowledge
Resources Librarian & Archivist at the Vassar Brothers Medical
Center! This presentation will take all of the pieces of the
process – creating, editing, and publishing a history of the
hospital and put them together. Mary Jo will also share various
lessons learned along the way about being a solo medical
librarian who is also the resident archivist.
Mary Jo Russell is a 33-year career medical librarian at Vassar
Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie, New York. She received
her bachelor’s degree in history from Houghton College and her
master’s degree in library science from the State University at
Albany, both in New York.
She began her career as a part time librarian in a small
community hospital, then accepted a full time position at Vassar
in 1991 to revitalize a very outdated library. Several
renovations and many years later, she is still there! She
established the medical center archives in 2004.
