A presentation from Sabah Eltareb, Principal Librarian and Assistant Director at the California State Library’s California Research Bureau.

As you are working your way through Library School, it’s never too early (or late) to be thinking about what you are going to do after you graduate, and about options to leverage your education and experience into a challenging and meaningful career.

Presentation topics:
– Overview of the California Research Bureau, part of the California State Library
– What my day-to-day responsibilities involve
– Anecdotes, what I enjoy and/or find challenging about my line of work
– How I came into the position that I am currently in
– Tips for navigating California state government library jobs

Bio: Sabah Eltareb is the Principal Librarian and Assistant Director at the California Research Bureau, part of the California State Library. She has worked on a number of different projects and as her roles evolved in two very distinct public services bureaus at the State Library – the State Library Services Bureau and the California Research Bureau – was able to work on cross bureau activities gleaned from those experiences. She has held leadership positions in the Government Information and Social Science Divisions (Communities) of the Special Libraries Association as well as with the Legislative Research Librarians and the Legislative Staff Coordinating Committee of the National Conference of State Legislatures. Prior to the State Library, Sabah worked in public and academic libraries, the Social Security Administration, and family-owned small businesses.
