Virtual Book Circle: Celebrating the Poetry of Sophia Thakur hosted by ALASC
ALASC invites you to join us for a special event celebrating
National Poetry Month. We are hosting a virtual book circle to
explore Somebody Give This Heart a Pen, a book of poetry by
renowned performance poet Sophia Thakur. All are welcome — you
don’t need to have read the book to attend this event. We’ll be
sharing videos of Thakur’s spoken word performances. This is an
opportunity for us to reflect on and draw meaningful connections
with Thakur’s powerful work.
This special event follows the success of our book giveaway in
honor of Black History Month, when we gave away over 100 copies
of Thakur’s book. This ALASC project was made possible by funding
from our SJSU Fund Student Support and Activities Award.
Register in advance for this meeting:

After registering, you will receive a confirmation email
containing information about joining the meeting.
We hope you can join us for the book circle. In the meantime,
check out this interview where Thakur discusses her work as a
performance poet and describes the experience of putting spoken
words to the page. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6RHxBlQJvYM
