This event is sponsored by ALA’s ACRL (Association of College & Research Libraries) Virtual World Interest Group.
CybaLOUNGE’s creator, Dieter Heyne (Edward Tarber in virtual worlds), launched the public beta in 2013. Heyne programs, creates content, and maintains servers for the world in his spare time. CybaLOUNGE is free and requires no software downloads or updates—everything runs right in your browser! The project’s aim is to “provide a three-dimensional metaverse platform for recreational, educational and business/collaboration purposes.”
Heyne documents CybaLOUNGE’s progress in their News section. Selby Evans, a virtual world blogger also posts updates and videos about CybaLOUNGE on his blog: Virtual Outworlding. Evans also holds office hours in CybaLOUNGE everyday @ 10am (Pacific) for any newcomers interested in learning more about web-worlds and other virtual worlds. For more information about web-worlds, including CybaLOUNGE, visit Evans’ Web-Worlds in Your Browser: Visitor’s Guide.
