The speakers will share ways to create a quest with tips on promoting, troubleshooting, and interacting on a global scale.

Join Brant Knutzen (Blended Learning Consultant for the Education University of Hong Kong) and Dr. Valerie Hill (President of the Community Virtual Library) as they discuss how to create and host a virtual quest.

An engaging quest in a virtual world can intrinsically motivate participants to learn specific skills or explore any type of content. The speakers will share ways to create a quest with tips on promoting, troubleshooting, and interacting on a global scale.

Brant created the Medieval Quest on Lingnan Drama Island, which was featured at the Virtual Worlds Best Practices in Education (VWBPE) Conference 2016. Val brought volunteers from the Community Virtual Library (CVL) to help guide people through the Quest, dressed in historical medieval attire as role play characters. A quest can be designed for experience alone or in a group setting.

Brant Knutzen (MrK Kas in Second Life) has been designing and building virtual worlds for nearly two decades, beginning with custom levels for the game Quake.  He is currently a doctoral student in Education, researching how gamification can enhance learning in multi-user virtual environments.  In Second Life since 2007, Brant has designed and built medical training simulations, medieval villages to support drama productions, and games which target specific learning outcomes.

Valerie Hill (Valibrarian Gregg in Second Life) earned a PhD in Library and Information Science in 2012 and has been a virtual world librarian in Second Life since 2007. Formerly a school librarian, Dr. Hill is a library and information science educator with a research focus on the intersection of information literacy and global digital participatory culture.
